Coming in the April 8 print edition of The Sun:
• ‘Solid’ budget passes: Board of Education members reached their stated goal last week and pledged a flat school tax levy for the 2009-2010 school district budget, and members urged residents to throw their support behind the document. The budget will feature a tax rate of $3.19 per every $100 of assessed property value. According to Business Administrator Jim Devereaux, an average assessed home of $140,000 will pay about $4,468 in school taxes next year – an increase of $8 from last year’s tax bill. Last year’s tax rate was $3.13.
• Lights, camera, tickets? Drivers looking to cut an extra few seconds off their commutes should probably think twice from now on – the township was approved for a five-year pilot program to make Route 70 a safer road to drive. The state Department of Transportation announced Cherry Hill’s approval for the Red Light Running Automated Enforcement pilot program, which will see a traffic camera installed at the intersection of Route 70 and Springdale Road.
• Town Hall gets green grant (Mayor’s Message): One year after adopting a progressive 10-point Green Action Plan, a critical funding source has come through for Cherry Hill that will allow us to transform Town Hall’s energy template. It is in the form of a $720,000 energy-efficiency block grant, steered our way by U.S. Sen. Robert Menendez.
